Japanese Trapdoor Snails, Small
Japanese Trapdoor Snails (Viviparus Malleatus) work around the clock, eating decaying organic matter and algae from your aquarium or pond, and looking great while they do it!
They will grow up to 1-1/2 to 2 inches in diameter and even better, Japanese Trapdoor Snails will not overrun your environment as egg-laying snails can. Trapdoor snails do well with koi, goldfish, crayfish, and most non-aggressive ornamental fish. As for care, if the tank or pond fish are happy the snails will be too, scarfing down uneaten food, decaying leaves and plant matter, plus other unwanted organics. Trapdoor snails do not typically eat live plants.
The snails are hardy creatures and will likely go into hibernation during shipping so it may take a day or two to see movement, but you’ll be surprised how much they get around once established. In ponds, you may not see them unless they come up toward the surface but if you have enough you’ll undoubtedly see the results of their work. To impact water clarity plan on at least 10 snails for every 50 square feet of surface area.
If you’ve had fish shipped to you, this is much the same process… but in slow motion. Like all Discount Koi live products, Japanese Trapdoor Snails are guaranteed to arrive alive. In the unlikely event that some perish in transit, we will promptly refund a proportionate amount of the purchase price. Just contact us directly within 48 hours of delivery.
