Scrape 'n Scope: Koi Parasite Diagnosis

Parasites account for untold thousands of koi deaths each year. There are plenty of effective treatments available but early mitigation depends on an accurate diagnosis. But frequently, the telltale signs are microscopic and invisible to the naked eye.

With Scrape ‘n Scope, we gently scrape a small amount of slime coat from a fish, then inspect it under the microscope to positively identify the parasites. This allows us to recommend an accurate, effective treatment plan to eradicate the bugs.

Here’s how it works.

In-Patient

Bring the koi to us and we will scrape and scope him for $50 per fish. If we cannot make a diagnosis there is no charge.

House Calls – Kitsap County Only

We can also come to you if your pond is in Kitsap County. The koi to be examined must be out of the pond and in a bucket, tub, or bin, for easy access. The scrape and scope fee is $50 per fish with a $100 charge for the house call. If we cannot make a diagnosis there is no charge for the scrape and scope, but the house call fee cannot be waived.

We will have the correct medications available at the appointment so there is no delay in treatment.
